Women's Basketball Loses at Regional Foe Valdosta State

, Ga. - Ashley Lutz scored 19 points to lead all scorers while Kati Rausberg added 15 points for the Eckerd Tritons (1-1) but the Valdosta State Lady Blazers (2-1) used a more balanced attack to push past the Tritons, 59-50, on Saturday evening at VSU's P.E. Complex.

In the first half, a layup by Lutz with 2:53 remaining gave the Tritons a 24-20 lead but the Blazers would close the half with five straight points, including a tip-in by Amanda Haven with nine seconds left, to go into the half leading 25-24.

In the second half, the Tritons took the lead for the last time after a layup by Tijana Brdar with 19:41 to go to make it 26-25 before VSU went on a 12-3 run, giving it a 37-29 lead with 14:24 left to play.

Eckerd would make a run at the Blazers, cutting their lead to 41-40 on a three by Rausberg with 7:19 to play. However, the Blazers would go on to out-score the Tritons, 18-10 over the last seven minutes to seal the nine-point victory.

For the game, VSU shot 39 percent from the field while holding Eckerd to 36.7 percent. The Blazers also out-rebounded the Tritons, 38-36.

Sierra Nixon, who also grabbed 12 boards, and Tamika Booker, led VSU with 10 points each while Brittany Daniels added nine points and five rebounds.

Eckerd will return to action on Friday, November 27 as it battles Puerto Rico-Bayamon at 3pm.
