INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Eckerd Volleyball team (19-11) has earned its program-record fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament bid, as announced by the Association on Sunday evening. The Tritons have been seeded fourth in the eight-team South Region field and will look to get even with the Nova Southeastern Sharks (19-10), seeded fifth in the tournament.
The matchup, which will be held at 5pm at the University of Tampa on Thursday, November 19, will feature the third (NSU) and fourth (Eckerd) place finishers in the Sunshine State Conference. The Sharks defeated the Tritons 3-1 back on September 19 at NSU's University Center before beating Eckerd, 3-2, on October 23 in a match that featured a fifth set that the Tritons led 13-10 as well as 16-15. The Tritons will look to earn the program's first ever NCAA Tournament victory while the Sharks will try to defend their regional title, winning last year's South Regional as a sixth seed.
In other regional action, top-seeded Tampa, co-SSC champions, will face #8 Albany State, champions of the SIAC. #2 Saint Leo, the other SSC co-champion, will face seventh-seeded North Alabama who earned an at-large bid from the Gulf South Conference, while #3 West Florida, champions of the GSC, will face sixth seeded Lynn.
