Volleyball opens NCAA Tournament against No. 2 seeded Barry

TAMPA, Fla. -- The No. 7 seeded Eckerd volleyball team will begin its postseason journey on Thursday, December 4 when they face the No. 2 seeded and No. 3 nationally-ranked Barry Buccaneers in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament South Regional.

Eckerd earned an at-large berth after finishing the year 19-12, ending the season with four straight wins, three of which were over teams ranked ahead of the them at the time. The Tritons own four wins over NCAA Tournament teams this season, including two non-conference victories over Ohio Dominican and Indy. Eckerd also possesses victories over Palm Beach Atlantic and nationally-ranked Lynn, both of which are in the NCAA field. 

The Tritons will take on Barry on Thursday for the third time this season. The Bucs took both meetings this season by a score of 3-1, but four of the eight sets played were decided by three points of less. Barry ended the season with a 23-4 record and finished 16-4 in the SSC. The Bucs lost twice to both Tampa and PBA.

Eckerd boasted a pair of All-Conference players this season in Kinga Michalska and Gabi Jedrzejczak. Michalska collected All-Region honors from the AVCA on Wednesday as well.

The Tritons and Buccaneers will be the second match of the day on Thursday and will begin at approximately 1:30 p.m. Tickets will be available for purchase at the Martinez Center entrance.
