DADE CITY, Fla. – The Eckerd men's golf team continued its record-setting start to the season, finishing sixth at the South/Southeast Regional Preview on Tuesday at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.
The Tritons finished the 54-hole event at 850, 14-under par, after rounds of 284, 272, and 294. Eckerd placed sixth in the 12-team field, two strokes ahead of North Georgia and three ahead of Tampa.
Eckerd's second round highlighted the tournament as the Tritons fired a 16-under 272, breaking the program's single-round team record of 278 set just last week at the Jay Jennison Cup.
Simon Germain and Henry Wigg each carded an 8-under 64 in the second round, tying the program's individual single-round record set in 2018. Germain posted an eagle and seven birdies in his record-tying round, while Wigg matched him at 8-under after seeing nine birdies to help fuel Eckerd's historic team performance. Both 64s were tied for the lowest rounds of the tournament.
Germain led the Tritons individually, finishing tied for 16th at 6-under 210 following rounds of 71, 64, and 75. Huey Cunningham and Wigg tied for 22nd at 4-under 212, with Cunningham closing the tournament with a 2-under 70 on Tuesday. Tyler Van Dusen tied for 52nd at 4-over 220, while Harrison Shaw finished 66th at 9-over 225. Thayne Thomas placed 78th with a score of 234.
The Tritons will be back in action Oct. 12-13 for the Copperhead Championship.
