Sailing earns fourth at SAISA Open Team Race Championship

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Eckerd Tritons sailing team placed fourth out of seven teams over the weekend a the SAISA Open Team Race Championship.

On Saturday, the fleet headed out on time and after a short postponement on the water and began racing in a nice 6-8kt southerly breeze. As the day went on the breeze built to a very nice 10-15kts. After two full round robins, a total of 42 races were completed. 

On Sunday, the fleet was met with great 8-13kt SSW sailing conditions which improved to winds of 20+ knots throughout the day. The Race Committee completed a third round robin and was able to get the fleet back to shore and packed up before the anticipated storms that were approaching.

Eckerd went 8-10 over the two-day regatta. The team went 2-4 in both the first and second rounds before flipping to a 4-2 record in the final round. The Tritons went 3-0 against both Rollins and Clemson, and also picked up wins over South Florida and Jacksonville. 

The Tritons will be back in action this upcoming weekend at the Truxtun Umstead hosted by Navy.
