ST. PETERSBURG – Eckerd sailing hosted the SAISA Open Fleet Race Championship over the weekend at Doyle Sailing Center, placing fifth out of 18 teams in attendance.
On Saturday, race 1A was sailed in a 6-knot south wind before 2A started in a 4-knot south wind that slowly faded as the race continued. Sailors returned to the basin, and upon their arrival, a very steady west wind filed at 8-10 knots. After the completion of 6B, the wind shifted to the North West and became a bit shiftier but at the same velocity. The course was adjusted and 7 & 8 A were completed to wrap up the day. All races sailed were W4's.
On Sunday, races 8B though 10A were sailed in a steady 6-knot northwest wind. After 10A, the course was adjusted for the shiftier west wind and teams sailed W4's and W3's until the wind increased to 8-12 knots.
Eckerd finished the weekend with a 151 points. The A division team had 94, while B finished with 57. The 57 was the third-best of any in B division.
The Tritons will be back in action next weekend for the Admiral's Cup in New York.
