ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Eckerd Tritons sailing team competed at the Truxtun Umsted Regatta over the weekend, finishing sixth out of 18 teams.
On day one, racing began in the river at Navy. Paul Rodrigues Jr. and Avery Guck represented the Tritons in A Division, starting in FJs, while Jordan Vieira and Tia Soultanakis competed in B Division in the 420s. Eight races were scheduled for Saturday. The first four were completed quickly before a two-hour delay due to inconsistent winds that shifted direction every 10 minutes. Racing resumed in the river for the final four races, with a weaker outgoing current. Winds ranged from 8–10 knots with gusts up to 12 in the morning, increasing to 10–12 knots with gusts of 15 later in the day.
The Tritons closed the day in eighth place overall, with A Division in 10th and B Division in fourth. The team recorded nine top-10 finishes across 16 races.
On Sunday, a brief wind delay pushed the start time to 10 a.m., with racing once again held in the river. Winds held steady at 10–12 knots, accompanied by a strong downstream current. As the day progressed, the breeze built and created choppier conditions, challenging competitors to manage shifting winds, waves, and current.
The Tritons ultimately finished sixth overall with 222 points. A Division placed 10th with 121 points, while B Division finished fourth with 112 points. A Division recorded nine top-10 finishes in 14 races, while B Division added eight top-10 finishes in 14 races.
Up next, the Tritons will host and compete in the SAISA Open Fleet Championship hosted by Eckerd.Â
