NORFOLK, Va. -- The Eckerd sailing team wrapped up the Szambecki Team Race hosted by Old Dominion over the weekend, finishing in 10th place.
On Saturday, the event started out with west winds at 5-10 knots under sunny skies. As the day progressed, the wind lightened and there was a pause in racing to wait for the wind. The breeze filled in at 8-16 knots from the North around 1 pm. In total, 53 races were completed.
On Sunday, the race day started on time with a shifty SSW 8-13kts. As it warmed into the upper 70s, the breeze became more unstable and racing stalled at noon. With the pause in racing the formate was amended to a full round robin and a top and bottom five finals. Breeze filled back in at 8 to 14 to finish racing.
Eckerd went 3-10 over the weekend, picking up wins over Fordham, Rhode Island, and George Washington.
The Tritons will be back in action April 4-5 for the Open Team Race Championship in Charleston, S.C.
