ST. PETERSBURG – For the first time in program history, the Eckerd women's soccer team has claimed a share of the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) regular-season championship, capping a historic 2026 conference campaign.
The Tritons finished SSC play unbeaten with a 6-0-4 record, collecting 22 points to share the regular-season crown with Nova Southeastern. The news was official Tuesday evening following Florida Tech's 2-0 loss to Florida Southen.
Eckerd closed conference play on a four-game winning streak, outscoring its opponents 12-1 during that stretch. The Tritons capped their unbeaten SSC slate with a commanding 3-0 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday at Johnson Field.
The championship campaign featured several impressive performances, including a 1-1 draw on the road against then-No. 1 Florida Tech, a scoreless tie against nationally-ranked Nova Southeastern, and a 1-0 victory over Tampa.
Eckerd found its stride offensively down the stretch, defeating Saint Leo 5-1 before rallying from a halftime deficit for a 2-1 victory at Rollins behind two goals from Nell Doe. The Tritons followed with consecutive shutouts against Barry and Palm Beach Atlantic to close conference play. Defensively, Eckerd was equally impressive, surrendering just three goals across its 10 SSC contests while recording seven shutouts.
The championship represents another significant step forward for the Tritons following a historic 2025 campaign in which they finished second in the SSC standings with a 6-2-2 conference record, earning the program's highest SSC Tournament seed at the time.
With the regular-season championship secured, the Tritons now turn their attention to the SSC Tournament as they look to continue their historic campaign.
