ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The Eckerd men's golf team set a new program record for a 54-hole tournament on Monday and Tuesday at the Jay Jennison Cup at King & Bear Golf Course.
After battling weather most of the day on Monday, the teams successfully got in the first round and a few holes into the second round by day's end. The Tritons sat in a tie for fifth as a team with a round-one score of 289 before posting a total of 286 in round two to move up in the leader board. Eckerd closed out the tournament with a tournament-best 280 in round three to finish 9-under par as a team with a final score of 855. The final tally breaks the previous 54-hole program record of 864 set at the Buccaneer Invitational back in 2012.
Reggie Fear led the Tritons with a seventh-place standing, shooting a total of 211 for 5-under with a tournament-best 67 score in round three on Tuesday.
Drew Campbell earned 17th overall with a score of 216 at even par, while
Thayne Thomas jumped up in the standings to 28th overall after his 66 on Tuesday.
Tyler Van Dusen and
Henry Wigg ended one stroke behind in 36th to round out the lineup for the Tritons.
As a team, Eckerd earned third overall out 18 teams and ahead of six of the other seven SSC teams in attendance.
The Tritons will be back in action next week for the Currahee Collegiate Invite in Toccoa Ga.
