NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Eckerd Tritons sailing team competed at the Sugar Bowl hosted by Tulane over the weekend, finishing fourth out of six teams.
On day one, the Tritons competed in eight races with a light wind of 4-6 knots. With each team having three divisions, all 18 boats were sailing the same course. For Eckerd, the A division was comprised of
Paul Rodrigues Jr. and
Avery Guck, while the B was
Jordan Vieira and
Tia Soultankakis. The C team consisted ofÂ
Peter Miller and
Peyton Elizabeth Seidle. Racing ended around 3:30 p.m., leaving the Tritons in fourth for the day with 225 points.Â
On Sunday, the racing started promptly at 10 a.m., with the wind similar to Saturday, with longer wind shifts. Rodrigues and Guck closed out the weekend with two top-five finishes in their final two races, finishing the regatta with five placements inside the top five. Vieira and Soultankakis ended the weekend with a sixth-place standing in the final race, the fourth time across the two days obtaining that result. Seidle and Miller saw their best finish in race No. 9 in ninth place.Â
Over all the Tritons placed 4th with 422 points. A division tied for 8th out of 18., B division placed 11th out of 18, and C division placed 14th out of 18.
Up next for the Tritons, the team will compete at both the Danmark Trophy in Connecticut and the C of C Fall open in Charleston, S.C.
