Fear Finishes Runner-Up, DiZinno 11th at SSC Championship

WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Eckerd men's golf team posted their best finish at the SSC Championship since 2013 on Tuesday, finishing sixth. Eckerd shot the lowest round of the day in the field on Tuesday with a 286 to vault up the leaderboard, the mark being the best single round in program history at the SSC Championship. 

Eckerd added rounds of 302-306-286 for a three-round total of 894 at the Sunday through Tuesday event at the Rio Pinar Golf Course. 

After an opening round 74, Reggie Fear carded back-to-back rounds under par to finish as runner-up, the best finish by a player since 2013. 

Reggie Fear (74-71-68) 2nd

  • Fear carded 11 birdies.
  • He ranked fifth in the field with 35 pars. 
  • Fear ranked third in the field on par-4's with a 4.03 average and fourth on par-3's with a 3.0 average. 

Josh Dizinno (78-74-67) T11th 

  • DiZinno finished fifth in the field with 12 birdies. He added 30 pars.
  • DiZinno's 2.92 average on par-3's ranked third in the field. 

Tyler Van Dusen (75-78-78) T39th

  • Van Dusen added five birdies and 31 pars. 

Thayne Thomas (75-83-79) T47 

  • Thomas posted five birdies and 27 pars. 

Drew Campbell (80-84-73) T47

  • Campbell carded nine birdies and 22 pars. 

NOTES AND NUMBERS 

  • Fear's second-place finish is the best placing by a Triton since 2013 when Jeff Evanier also finished as runner-up. His 213 is the best mark at the Championships since Evanier's 211 that year. 
  • Eckerd posted 42 birdies and 145 pars. 
  • Eckerd's final round 286 was the best of the day by the field. It tied for the second-best single round in the tournament. It is Eckerd's lowest single round at the SSC Championship in program history.
  • Florida Southern won the team title with a 3-under 861. 
  • Mick Herron of Rollins won the individual title with a 209. 
  • Fear's final round of 68 is one off his career-low. 
  • DiZinno's final round 67 is one off his career-low and the best mark this season. It is also the lowest single round by an individual in the field throughout the tournament.
