ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team won a pair of matches at the Baker Beach Complex on Thursday, defeating New College of Florida 5-0 and Ave Maria (Fla.) 4-1.
Eckerd (4-10) opened the day by defeating New College of Florida (5-6) 5-0.
Brooke Hand and Anna Jupin got Eckerd off to a winning start, defeating their opponents in straight sets 21-16 and 21-8. Addie White and Madison Hardbarger won their matchup in a similar fashion, battling to beat the Mighty Banyans 21-15 and 21-18.
Teagan VanderMey and Ella Kloepper made quick work of their opponents with a two-set victory. Emma Samuelson and Mariana Olivares-Cely were defeated in the first set of their match 21-13, but fought back to win the second set and the decisive third set. Jocelyn Escoffery and Maddie Prois finished off the sweep for Eckerd, defeating their competitors 21-9 in straight sets.
Eckerd defeated Ave Maria (6-7) 4-1 to win their Senior Day match.
In a dominant performance, Hand and Jupin took control of their second match of the day, defeating the Gyrenes 21-11 and 21-8. White and Hardbarger delivered another victory for the Tritons, ending their match in straight sets, 21-9 and 21-11.Â
VanderMey and Kloepper extended the lead, pushing through a close match to win 21-16 and 21-18. Samuelson and Olivares-Cely celebrated their second win of the day, with a commanding performance ending in straight sets, 21-7 and 21-10.Â
Eckerd returns to action on Friday, March 28th, marking the start of the Eckerd College Battle on the Bay tournament. They face off against SSC opponents Tampa and Palm Beach Atlantic at the Baker Beach Volleyball Complex.
