AVE MARIA, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Ave Maria (Fla.) 5-0 and Barry University 4-1 in a tri-match at Ave Maria.
Eckerd (2-8) opened the day by defeating Ave Maria University (5-2), marking EC's first win of the season. Four of the matches were won by the Tritons in straight sets, with one match going to three sets.
In the No. 1 slot, Anna Jupin and Brooke Hand cruised to a 21-8, 21-13 victory over Ines Lopes and Adriana Bravo. Similarly, Madison Hardbarger and Addie White won in straight sets, 21-15 and 21-9.
Teagan VanderMey and Ella Kloepper rallied after losing 19-21 in the first set, eventually coming back in the second set to win 21-18. A tight-knit third set ended in the Tritons' favor, with VanderMey and Kloepper winning 16-4.
Jocelyn Escoffery and Maddie Prois won their match in the No. 4 pairing 21-8 and 23-21. Marti Lu Boser and Jessi Meghreblian finished off the sweep, defeating Abbey Grose and Kiley Lacey 21-15 and 21-19.
The second match of the day ended in a 4-1 win for Eckerd over conference opponent Barry (1-3).
Jupin and Hand brought home their second win of the day in three sets, coming back from a 21-13 loss in the second set to win the third set 15-10. Hardbarger and White notched another win for Eckerd, defeating their opponents 21-9 and 21-6.
In the No. 3 pairing, VanderMey and Kloepper fought hard to secure the victory, defeating the Buccaneers 21-15 and 21-19. Lu Boser and Meghreblian finished off the day in a competitive match, persevering to win 21-17 and 21-18.
Eckerd returns to action Friday for the first day of the Triton Invite, facing Polk State College (Fla.) in a scrimmage at 8:30 AM and Liberty University (Va.) for the Tritons Teal Out match at 12:30 PM.
