TAMPA, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball fell to Florida Gulf Coast University and the University of Tampa in a tri-match in Tampa on Friday afternoon, with both contests concluding in 5-0 defeats.
Eckerd (0-6) was defeated 5-0 in straight sets by FGCU (3-3).
Teagan VanderMey and Ella Kloepper fell to Eagles' Alexis Keeter and Ava Lilliquist 21-9 in the first set. They put up a strong fight in the second set, nearly pushing it to a third, but ultimately lost 21-19.
In the No. 5 pairing, Jocelyn Escoffery and Maddie Prois lost the first set 21-13. They fought back to make the second set a tight contest, but eventually fell 23-21.Â
The Tampa Spartans (2-4) shut out Eckerd 5-0 in the second match of the day.Â
Freshman Emma Samuelson and senior Mariana Olivares-Cely dropped their first set 21-12, but dug deep to win the second set 21-16. The No. 5 pairing fell in the third set 15-11.
Eckerd returns to action on Wednesday, March 5th, marking the first home tri-match of the 2025 season. They face off against SSC opponents Saint Leo University and Florida Southern College at the Baker Beach Volleyball Complex.
