BRANFORD, Conn. -- The Eckerd Tritons sailing team competed at the Open Atlantic Coast Championship round 1A on Saturday and Sunday in Connecticut, finishing 13th out of 18 teams in attendance.
On day one, the teams started off in postponement with a little wind before six races were complete prior to the lunch break. After the break, the wind died to about 4-5 knots, allowing just one more race in each division. For the Tritons, the A division was comprised of Avery Guck and Paul Rodrigues Jr., while the B was Jordan Vieira and Tia Soultankakis, with Sophie Leduc as an alternate.
On Sunday, the Tritons set out around 11 a.m., but were sent back in as there was not enough wind to get the races out. Racing was called off around 2 pm. Eckerd's A division placed 15th with 87 points and B division placed 14th wth 82 points. Over all the Tritons got 13th with 169 points, qualifying for the Open Atlantic Coast Tournament in two weeks at St. Mary's.
Eckerd will next compete Kings Point, N.Y. for the Nevins Trophy on October 11-12.
