ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- The Eckerd Tritons sailing team competed in two regattas over the weekend, taking ninth of 18 teams at the Open ACC's in Maryland, and fifth out of eight teams at the Lake Virginia Invitational hosted by Rollins.
In Maryland, the Tritons featuredÂ
Paul Rodrigues Jr. and
Avery Guck in division A and
Jordan Vieira and
Tia Soultankakis in B. On day one, the teams started the day in a wind hold, before it built out to 4-6 knots. Seven races were completed in the A division and six in the B prior to racing halted around 4:45 p.m. Both teams for Eckerd boasted five top-five finishes on the day and overall the Tritons sat in fifth with 102 points.
On Sunday, the wind was a steady 8 knots, building to 15 with gusts up to 18. Seven races were completed by 2 p.m., with Eckerd remaining in the top 10 through the end. The Tritons ended in ninth with 250 points. The A division got eighth with 119 points, while B division got 12th with 131 points. Guck and Rodrigues' best performance came on day one with a second-place standing in race No. 2, while Vieira and Soultankakis earned a weekend-best third place in the fifth race on Saturday.
At the Lake Virginia Invitational, the Tritons sent out
Peter Miller and
Peyton Elizabeth Seidle in the A division, and
Anderson Osinski and
Lily Tracey in B, with
Will Alvarado as the alternate. On day one, four races were completed before lunch break, with Osinski and Tracey getting a bullet in the first race, and Seidle/Miller doing the same in the second. After 10 races on Saturday, the team sat in fourth with 156 points.
On Sunday, A division had three top-10 finishes within the last four races and B had one top 10 finish. They ended the day early and the Tritons finished in fifth with 224 points.Â
Up next for the Tritons, the team will compete at the last regatta of the fall 2025 season at Jacksonville at the SAISA Fall Open Fleet Race Championship on Oct. 25-26.Â
