Profitt Resigns as Head Softball Coach

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After eight seasons at the helm, head softball coach Katie Profitt has stepped down from her role, announced Wednesday, June 5.

Profitt joined the Tritons in the summer of 2016, becoming the seventh head coach in program history. She amassed 118 wins in her tenure while coaching seven All-SSC selections and two NFCA First Team All-Region selections in Nikole Van Gennep (2018, 2019).

Her first season at the helm saw the team post five victories over nationally-ranked opponents, followed by nine walk-off victories in her second season.

In 2023, she produced her best record during her tenure with a 21-26 mark, the fourth most wins in a season in program history. Eckerd produced a 13-game win streak during the season and 89 stolen bases, the most in a season since at least 1998. She also recorded her 100th career win during the season.

She guided Ella Coiner to first-team All-SSC honors this year.

Proffitt was a four-year standout as a catcher at the University of Hawaii, starting 202 games over the course of her career. She led Hawaii to the program's only appearance in the Women's College World Series in 2010. She was inducted into the Hawaii Athletics Hall of Fame last month.

A national search for a new head softball coach will begin immediately.
