WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on their final day in West Palm Beach on Saturday, falling to both Tusculum (Tenn.) and Palm Beach Atlantic, 4-1.
Eckerd (3-15) opened the day falling to Tusculum (12-8) 4-1.
Melanie Silva and Addie White were the only Tritons to win their match against Tusculum. The pair defeated the No. 2 flight of Kyla Oppenhuis and Brynn Smith 21-18, 21-14.
The four's and five's matches grinded, each coming back from a 1-0 set deficit to force a third set. Both the four's and five's came up just short in set three, as Mariana Olivares-Cely and Jessi Meghreblian fell 15-13 in the No. 4 flight, and Rachel Jackson and Teagan VanderMey fell 17-15 in the No. 5 flight.
Picking up a point in the top flight, Eckerd fell to Palm Beach Atlantic (12-12), 4-1.
Eckerd battled in one of their hardest-fought matches of the year to Palm Beach Atlantic. In flights three through five, all six sets were decided within four points.
Silva and White took an early 21-16 lead in the first set, before dropping two straight in the second flight.
The Tritons' top pairing of Madison Hardbarger and Anna Jupin competed in a marathon-match against the Sailfish's top pairing of Gabriella Aziz and Abigail Manson. Hardbarger and Jupin played to a 27-25 set one victory before dropping set two 21-12. In the third set, the pair battled to a 19-17 victory for Eckerd's lone point in the match.
The Tritons host their final tri-match of the season at the Baker Beach Volleyball Complex on Thursday, facing off against Ave Maria (Fla.) at 12:00 PM and Southeastern (Fla.) at 2:00 PM.
