Pair of Top-Five Finishes Highlight Weekend Regattas

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A third-place finish by Morgan Smith and a fourth-place finish at the South Florida Trophy highlighted a busy weekend on the water as the Eckerd open sailing team completed three events. 

Morgan Smith competed in the SAISA Open Singlehanded Championships in Melbourne over the weekend, finishing third with 40 points. He finished in the top four in four of the seven races, highlighted by a victory in race four and a runner-up finish in race six. 

Benjamin Dufour of Charleston won the Championship with eight points. 

At the South Florida Trophy in St. Petersburg on Sunday, Eckerd finished fourth with 46 points. 

Carter Morin and Tess Levanway composed the A Division, finishing fifth with 25 points. They had a pair of third-place finishes in the second and fourth races. 

Lily Schwartz and Eloise Weiss competed in the B Division, finishing fourth with 21 points, just two points from third. The tandem had a third-place finish in race three and capped the event with a second-place finish.  

USF won the event with 46 points.

Finally, at the SAISA South Top Six Invite, Eckerd placed sixth with 152 points. 

Morin and Levanway competed in the A Division, with Schwartz and Weiss in the B Division. 

Morin and Levanway finished with 68 points. The tandem caught their stride late with a third-place finish in race six and a runner-up finish in race eight. Schwartz and Weiss finished with 84 points. 

Jacksonville won the event with 75 points. 

Eckerd returns to the water this weekend, hosting the SAISA Women's Top-18 Invite at the Doyle Sailing Center.
