MELBOURNE, Fla. - Three Tritons -
Michael Ballard,
Tyler Cox, and
Cam Collier - were selected to the All Sunshine State Conference Baseball team as released by the conference office on Tuesday, May 16.
Ballard was tabbed to the first team and defensive team, while Cox was selected to the honorable mention team. Collier received honors on the defensive team as well.
Ballard, from Lake Mary, Florida, garners first-team honors and defensive team accolades after leading Eckerd's offense this season. He slashed .375/.439/.542. His batting average and slugging percentage topped the team. He also led the team in homeruns (7), RBIs (44), and runs (40) while ranking second on the squad in doubles (15)
His 81 hits this season rank fourth in single-season records.
After taking the series over Barry, he was named the SSC Player of the Week on March 6.
Ballard's batting average ranks fifth in the SSC, while his hits rank third.
Ballard posted a .971 fielding percentage with 152 assists, 82 putouts, and 31 double plays.
Cox, from Winfield, West Virginia, collects honorable mention honors after boasting a .355/.396/.495 slash line. His 16 doubles led the team, while his batting average and 34 RBIs ranked second on the squad.
Cox also appeared in nine games on the mound with a 3-2 record, and one save, and a 6.25 ERA.
In the second game against Barry on March 4, Cox hit a grandslam while earning the win over six innings on the rubber.
His 78 hits rank sixth in the SSC.
Collier, from St. Petersburg, Florida, earned all-defensive team honors after boasting a perfect fielding percentage and seven assists from the outfield while turning two double plays.
Offensively, Collier hit .310 with eight doubles, five homeruns, and 31 RBIs.
Tampa garnered both the player of the year in EJ Cumbo and the pitcher of the year in Alex Canney. Jake Ogden of Barry was tabbed freshman of the year, while Jon Sjogren of Rollins was selected coach of the year.
