TAVARES, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team competed on the final day of the AVCA Small College Championships with matches against Wayne State (Neb.) and Tusculum (Tenn.). The Tritons won both matches to win the Bronze A pool, sweeping Wayne State 3-0, and defeating Tusculum 3-2, on Sunday.
Agata Sklepik and Kitana Lim knocked off the top pairing from Wayne State by scores of 21-17 and 21-17. Addie White and Anna Jupin completed a similar sweep in the No. 4 flight, downing Brooke Peltz and Rachel Walker 21-12, 21-11. Nicki Bechtold and Martina Melicherova completed the sweep in the No. 3 draw with a 21-13, 21-19 victory to clinch the match.
Eckerd had a split-decision win against Tusculum, with the match decided in two three-set victories. Joelle Coulter and Dana Dull were down early with a 21-18 loss in set one. They bounced back with a 21-17 victory in set two, and a 15-9 decision in set three. In similar fashion, Bechtold and Melicherova won the No. 3 spot in a thrilling third set. After a 21-13 victory, the pair fell behind in set two, dropping the set 21-18. The third set was neck-and-neck, but Melicherova and Bechtold took the victory by a score of 15-13. Sklepik and Lim had their second win of the day in the top slot, defeating the duo of Jordyn Anderson and Riley Rushing 21-14, 21-10.
The Tritons finished the tournament winning the Bronze A pool, and finished the year with a 6-14 record, with three wins in the AVCA Small College Championship. Six Tritons close out their careers: Sklepik, Lim, Bechtold, Dull, Joelle Coulter, and Sophia Romigh.
