ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A strong performance in the A Division with 11 top-3 finishes led the Eckerd open sailing team to a fourth-place finish at the Eckerd Interconference at the Doyle Sailing Center over the weekend.
Eckerd finished with 136 points in fourth place, just 10 points from moving into third.
Matthew Monts skipper the A Division with
Brooks Jordan (1-10) and
Tess Levanway (11-16) as crew with a third-place finish with 51 points, just two points from second place. The duo finished in the top-3 in 11 of the 16 races, with Monts and Jordan winning race three. They finished as the runner-up in legs two, five, 14, and 15.
Griffin Richardson (1-6) and
Lily Schwartz (7-16) skippered the B Division with
Amelia Johnson as crew. They finished with 85 points and a sixth-place finish, posting three third-place finishes in races nine, 12, and 16.
Florida State won the event with 71 points.
Eckerd returns to action next weekend at the Mendelblatt Team Race in Tampa.
