Beauregard Announces 2022 Signing Class

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd baseball program welcomes a recruiting class of 13 newcomers for the 2023 season, including seven transfers and six freshmen, as announced by head coach Josh Beauregard '03

"Our coaching staff worked hard to complete this recruiting class. We were tasked with replacing some talented seniors who graduated," stated Beauregard. "We are thrilled with the results of our hard work and we are looking forward to seeing what these young men will do in a Triton uniform."

Kyle Abbott (IF; Stuart, Fla.)

Abbot joins the Tritons after spending two seasons at Daytona State College, where he was named to the NJCAA Academic All-American First-Team. He played 61 games for the Falcons through two seasons with a .316 batting average and a .392 on-base percentage. In the 2022 season, Abbott only had three errors through 35 games. Before Daytona State College, he prepped at Jensen Beach High School, where he was a two-time Silver Slugger award recipient and a first-team all-conference honoree in 2018. Kyle is the son of Kurt and Stacey Abbott and plans to major in Business Management. 

Darius Bradley (OF; Naples, Fla.)

Bradley joins the Tritons following two seasons at Clarke University (Iowa), where he appeared in 54 games for the Pride through two seasons. Through 102 plate appearances his first year, he had 21 hits, 20 runs, six doubles, three home runs, 25 RBIs, and nine stolen bases. He played high school ball at Naples High School in Naples, Florida, where he was a two-sport athlete in both baseball and basketball. He was a two-time batting-title recipient, defensive player of the year, and a three-time all-conference selection. Darius is the Son of Jessica Bradley and plans to major in Business Management.

Colby Casse (RHP; Ocala, Fla.)

The Ocala, Florida native, Casse, joins the Tritons' bullpen this season. He attended Pearson Online Academy and received his team's best pitcher award. In 2021, Casse helped lead Williston High School to the District 1A playoffs while posting a 5-2 record. Colby is the son of  Mark and Tina Casse and plans to major in Psychology. 

Cam Collier (OF; St. Petersburg, Fla.)

Collier comes to Eckerd after spending last season at Southwestern Illinois College. Prior to Southwestern Illinois, he played at the University of South Florida, where he appeared in 10 games with two runs through five at-bats in 2021. He attended high school at Northeast High School, where he won freshman of the year in 2017, defensive player of the year in 2018, and team MVP in 2018 and 2019. Cam is the son of Alyssa Stuart and Mike Collier and plans to major in Business Analytics. 

Kyle Ericson (C; Palm Harbor, Fla.)

Ericson joins the Tritons after spending two years at Polk State College (Fla.). Last season, he hit .234 with five RBIs, and in 2021, Ericson hit .292 with 10 extra-base hits and 18 RBIs. Before Polk State, Kyle played baseball at East Lake High School in Palm Harbor, Florida, where he received second-team all-conference honors. Kyle is the son of Lorri and Greg and plans to major in Business Administration.   

Kam Gelwick (OF; Pinellas Park, Fla.)

Gelwick prepped at Keswick Christian School in Pinellas Park, Florida. He was named the 2A District 14 Player of the Year and received the offensive MVP award. In his senior year, he posted a .556 batting average with seven homeruns and 25 RBIs as Keswick won the district championship. Kam is the son of Cody and Sarah and is undecided about his major. 

Gavin Grubbs (RHP; Canton, Ga.)

One of the few out-of-state newcomers, Grubbs comes to Florida from Canton, Georgia. He spent the last three seasons playing at Lipscomb University (Tenn.), where he appeared in 34 games as a reliever through three seasons. In 2022, he had a 1-1 record with an ERA of 5.68 over 6.1 innings pitched. Throughout his career with the Bisons, he has tallied 23 strikeouts. Prior to Lipscomb, he played baseball at Creekview High School where he received first-team all-region honors, was the team captain, and the team MVP. Gavin is the son of Stephen and Jill Grubbs and plans to major in Management.  

Joe Lynn (RHP; Bethpage, N.Y.)

The Long Island, New York native, takes the trip down south to join the Tritons. He played at Bethpage High School in Bethpage, New York, where he was awarded all-county honors his senior year. Joe is the son of Susan and William Lynn, and he plans to major in Political Science. 

Rene Ramos (RHP; Houston, Texas.)

Ramos transfers to Eckerd after spending two seasons at McLennan Community College (Texas), where he made 19 appearances over both seasons. Spent one season at Johnson Community College (Kan.), finishing with a 5-1 record with 38 strikeouts in 31.1 innings pitched. Prior to the start of his collegiate career, he played baseball at Blue Valley Southwest in Houston, Texas, receiving all-state pitching honors. Rene is the son of Christy Wells and Rene Ramos and is undecided about his major. 

Tucker Shalley (RHP; Grafton, Ill.)

Prior to coming to Eckerd, Shalley played collegiate baseball at Parkland College (Ill.), where he started in four of the nine games he appeared in, pitching 26.0 innings. In 2022, he compiled a 4-1 record with a 5.19 ERA. He struck out 27 batters, averaging 9.35 strikeouts per game. Prior to his time as a Cobra, Shalley played for the University of Illinois, appearing in two contests in 2021. He prepped at Jersey Community High School in Grafton, Illinois, where he played soccer, basketball, and baseball. Tucker is the son of Nathan and Kathy Shalley and is undecided in his major. 

Cole Shumaker (3B; Venice, Fla.)

Shumaker joins the Tritons from Venice High School in Venice, Florida. The Sun Preps awarded him first-team all-area in both 2021 and 2022. Cole is the son of Lindsay and Mark and plans to major in Business Administration.  

Wil Stockman (RHP; Cranston, R.I.)

Teammates with Tucker Shalley at Parkland College (Ill.), Stockman joins the Tritons this season. He appeared in 18 career games as a Cobra, starting two in 2021. In his sophomore year, he struck out 25 batters, averaging 11.07 strikeouts per nine innings. Prior to Parkland College, he played one season at the University of Indianapolis, appearing in one game in 2020. He prepped at Bloomington High School South in Bloomington, Indiana, where he was a three-time letter winner for basketball. Wil is the son of Marissa Reed and Andrew Stockman and plans to major in Management. 

Alek Trompke (RHP; Bradenton, Fla.)

Trompke comes to Eckerd College from Bradenton, Florida, where he played at Elevation Preparatory Academy. He won the team's CY Young Award in 2021. He posted a 2.43 ERA in his senior year. Alek is the son of Jeff and Lee Trompke and is undecided in his major.
