ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Eckerd baseball head coach Josh Beauregard '03 has announced Matthew Johnson as an addition to his staff as assistant coach and camp coordinator.
Johnson comes to Eckerd after spending the past year as the Recruiting and Camp Coordinator at Georgian Court in New Jersey.
He also currently works as the Collegiate Head Coach at Bay Area Pro Baseball / Florida Gulf Coast League in Bradenton.
"We are excited to bring Matt into the Triton Family. He was a talented and hard-working player in college and has worked hard to get this opportunity to join our staff. Adding Matt's work ethic, attention to detail, organizational skills, and personality was an easy decision," stated Beaureguard. "He will be working with catchers, helping with advanced scouting, and organizing our recruiting events here on campus."
Prior to his time at Georgian Court, he spent two seasons as the Director of Data Analytics / 18U Head Coach of Power Arm Performance in New Jersey and a year as the Director of Baseball Operations / Head Infield Coach at Wagner College in New York. As part of Wagner's staff, the Skyhawks advanced to the semifinals of the NEC Tournament.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to work alongside Coach Beauregard and contribute to the continued growth of Eckerd baseball. I look forward to leading our camp organization and recruitment efforts while also working closely with our catchers and supporting the hitting program," stated Johnson. "I plan to bring the lessons and experiences from my successful playing and coaching background to help elevate the program under Coach Beauregard's leadership."
Johnson was a utility player for three years at St. Thomas Aquinas College (NY), spending time as a catcher as well as infield and outfield. He was a two-time All-East Coast Conference selection. He spent his first two years at Alliance (Pa.). Over his five years, he posted a .296 batting average with 174 hits and 108 RBIs.
