TAVARES, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team fell in a pair of matches against Erskine (SC), 3-2, and Tusculum (Tenn.), 5-0, Friday afternoon on the second day of the AVCA Small College Beach Championships at Hickory Point Beach.
Against Erskine (11-10), Anna Jungjohann and Dana Dull gave the Tritons their first point of the day, cruising to victory in the No. 1 slot against Erskine's Morgan Browne and Olivia Browne, 21-15 and 21-15. The No. 2 duo of Joelle Coulter and Nicole Perekhodko mirrored their teammates' score, winning both sets 21-15.
Sophia Romigh and Mariana Olivares-Cely dropped the No. 3 draw, 21-13 and 21-13 as EC dropped the match, as a short-handed Tritons forfeited the No. 4 and 5 positions.
Jungjohann and Dull nearly picked up their second win of the day against Tusculum (20-11) in the second match, taking the No. 1 draw to a third-set tiebreaker after losing the first set 21-19. They bounced back in the second for a tight 21-18 win before ultimately falling in the third 15-11.
Coulter and Perehodko (21-9, 21-13) fell in the No. 2 slot but improved on their score in the second set. Romigh and Olivares-Cely were defeated by Tusculum's Britney Shawel and Landry Tea 21-10 and 21-10 and Eckerd conceded draws No. 4 and 5 via forfeit.
The Tritons (1-17) continue play on Saturday for day three of the AVCA Small College Beach Championships with matches against Catawba (NC) at 11:00 AM and Wayne State (Neb.) at 1:00 PM.
