ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd sailing team cruised to a second-place finish at South Points #3 following a strong performance from the A Division over the weekend. The Tritons also hosted the Eckerd Intersectional, placing fifth.
The Tritons finished second at South Points #3 in Tampa with 150 points on Saturday.
EC placed third in the A division with 56 points, with
Cameron Robinson as skipper and Ben Carrol as crew. The tandem opened the event strong with a runner-up finish in the opening race, followed by a victory in race four and a third-place finish in race five.
Cooper Robinson skippered the boat in the B division with
Olivia Stortz (1-5) and
Anna O'Reilly as crew (6-10), finishing with 94 points.
Host, South Florida, won the event with 130 points.
The Tritons placed fifth with 156 points at the Eckerd Intersectional at the Doyle Sailing Center.
Eden Nykamp skippered the A division with
Amelia Johnson (1-12) and
Josh Cole (13-14) as crew for 68 points. After a sixth-place finish to open the regatta, Nykamp and Johnson responded with three straight third-place finishes. They followed with runner-up placings in the sixth and eighth races and a victory in race 12.
Griffin Richardson skippered the boat in the B division with
Sophia Hacket (1-6, 10-14) and
Elissa Martinez (7-9) as crew finishing with 88 points. They capped the event with second-place finishes in races 13 and 14.
Miami won the Eckerd Intersectional with 91 points.
Eckerd returns to the water next weekend for two regattas at South Points #4 in Daytona Beach and hosting the Rudkin Team Race at the Doyle Sailing Center.
