LAKELAND, Fla. - The Eckerd beach volleyball team lost a pair of matches against Palm Beach Atlantic, 5-0, and Florida Southern, 4-1, on Saturday in a tri-match at the Judy and Joe P. Ruthven Beach Volleyball Courts.
The Tritons fought in the morning match against Palm Beach Atlantic (13-10), with the No. 4 pairing of Martina Melicherova and Nicki Bechtold taking the opening set against Bailey Myott and Gabriella Aziz, 21-19, before falling in a second set 21-12 and narrowly losing a pivotal third-set, 16-14.
Anna Jungjohann and Dana Dull barely lost the first set of the No. 1 draw, 21-18, and fell in the second set, 21-10. The Tritons lost the No. 2 and 3 slots in straight sets, and dropped the No. 5 draw via forfeit.
Eckerd improved in the afternoon match against host Florida Southern (15-5), as Melicherova and Bechtold flipped the script, winning the No. 4 draw in a third-set tiebreaker 10-21, 21-17, 17-15.
Jungjohann and Perekhodko also went to a third-set in the No. 2 draw, dropping the opening set 24-22, but bouncing back in the second 21-15, before falling in the third, 16-14. Eckerd lost the No. 1 and No. 3 draws in straight sets and the No. 5 slot via forfeit.
The Tritons (1-11) remain on the road with a dual match at Tampa and Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday at 4:00 and 6:00 PM.
