LAKELAND, Fla. - The Eckerd men's golf team opened up its spring season at the Matlock Collegiate Classic at the Lone Palm Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, finishing tied for 14th place.
The Tritons shot 312 in the opening round on Monday morning but improved to 294 in the afternoon. They followed with a 315 during a soggy Tuesday round for a three-round total of 921.
EC's second round 294 is one off their season-low.
Tim Scholl was the team's low finisher, placing 44th. Scholl opened with an even-par 72, highlighted by four birdies. He fired a 73 in the afternoon, including another four birdies. However, he posted an 81 on Tuesday.
Michael Bechard opened with an 80 but trimmed eight strokes for a 72 in the afternoon. He followed with a 77 on Tuesday.
Noah Cone opened with an 80 on Monday morning but improved to a 75 in the afternoon before concluding with an 81 on Tuesday.
Joe Lagana's best round came Monday afternoon with a 74, sandwiched between rounds of 80 and 83.
Ryan Hackenson improved in each round with scores of 88-83-76.
AJ Ewart of Barry claimed low-medalist honors with a 12-under 204. Barry took the team championship as well with an 847.
