Tritons Drop Doubleheader Against Lander

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd softball team dropped its doubleheader to the visiting Lander (SC) Bearcats, 5-0 and 2-1, Sunday afternoon at the Turley Athletic Complex as EC's offense struggled.

Lander's offense was humming in the opener with nine hits and five runs. The Bearcats added four runs in the fourth inning with Shannon Antonini's RBI single and a three-run homerun by Haven Pesce that put LU up 4-0. Lander tacked on its fifth run in the sixth on an RBI single. Eckerd's best chance came in the second and fourth innings with a pair of runners in scoring position, but they were unable to convert.

The Tritons took an early advantage in the finale with an early run in the first, a Skylar Redish double that brought home Brenna Lokeinsky, who singled to lead off the inning. However, Lander immediately answered as the Bearcats tallied the equalizing run in the second off a double by Lauren Collie. LU's Sajarie Jones added the game-winning run, scoring off a Barbara Cook double in the top of the fifth. EC rallied in the final frame loading the bases on an error and a pair of singles from Lauren Margolis and Brenna Lokeinsky. However, EC was unable to push a run across, and the Bearcats took the second game, 2-1.
