ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd sailing team opened its spring slate over the weekend at the SAISA Open at the Doyle Sailing Center. The Tritons raced two boats, placing fourth and eighth.
Eckerd's first team came in fourth with 171 points, a 31-point advantage over Jacksonville.
Sean Tallman skippered the A Division with
Sophia Hackett (1-9, 13-14) and
Brooks Jordan (10-12) as crew totaling 91 points for a fourth-place finish. Tallman and Hacket started Saturday strong with victories in races one and three and a second-place finish in race two. The duo also had top-five finishes in races five through eight. They were in second place following the first eight races but slid down the leaderboard to fourth on Sunday.
Griffin Richardson and
Elissa Martinez sailed all 14 races in the B Division four a fifth-place finish with 80 points. The tandem sailed strong on Sunday, finishing in the top-five in six out of the seven races on the day, including a second-place finish in race eight.
Eckerd's second boat finished eighth with 249 points.
Eden Nykamp and
Amelia Johnson comprised the A Division with 105 points for a seventh-place finish, highlighted by a second-place finish in race four and a third-place finish in race eight.
Lily Schwartz and
Anna O'Reilly raced in the B Division, placing 11th with 144 points, highlighted by a victory in the third race.
The University of Miami won the regatta with 101 points.
Eckerd heads back to the water next weekend for two events: South Points #2 in Jacksonville and the Frank Mendleblatt in Tampa.
