Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd baseball team rallied to tie the game in the ninth on a squeeze bunt by Tyler Young. However, the Tritons were unable to complete the comeback as they ultimately fell to Florida Southern, 9-7, in a 15 inning marathon of a game at the Turley Athletic Complex Tuesday night.
FSC jumped ahead early with a pair of runs in the opening inning on two RBI singles. The Tritons responded in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-2 lead. Danny Gutcher drove in the first run with an RBI single through the left side before two runs crossed on a wild pitch.
In the fourth inning, Mitch Donofrio made it a 5-2 game with a two-run single up the middle, scoring Gunner Womer and Dimerson Nunez.
The Moccasins took the lead, 6-5, in the sixth stanza with four runs on an RBI single, a wild pitch, and a two-run homerun by Jeff Liquori. The Mocs added an insurance run the following inning, scoring on a wild pitch.
EC rallied late with a run in the seventh as Jake Andriole delivered an RBI single before Tyler Young tied the game in the ninth on a perfectly executed squeeze bunt down the third baseline.
The Mocs threatened to take the lead in the 11th, but EC's defense cut down a pair of runners at the plate. Both team's bats went quiet over the next three innings before FSC took a 9-7 lead on Liquori's two-run homerun in the 15th inning. Eckerd was unable to plate a run in the final frame.
