CHARLESTON, SC - The Eckerd sailing team opened up its season with a third-place finish at the SAISA Open over the weekend.
Eckerd used a strong performance in the B Division to seal their placing as Matthew Monts and Amelia Johnson finished second in the division with 61 points. The duo shook off a tough start to place within the top five in nine straight races (4-12), including victories in races five, seven, 11, and 12. They also capped the regatta with a pair of second-place finishes in races 14 and 16.
The Tritons finished the A Division in fifth place with 91 points. A first-place finish in race six highlighted Sean Tallman and Sophia Hackett's opening day of racing in the division. The duo capped the event with a pair of third-place finishes.
Eckerd finished with 152 points while Jacksonville University won the event with 129.
The Tritons return to the water next weekend at the men's and women's singlehanded conference championships in Charleston, SC, and South Points #2 in Jacksonville.
