LARGO, Fla. - The 18th annual Matthew T. McDermott (MTM) Golf Tournament took place on November 15 at the Bayou Club in Largo, Florida, with a record number of participants and sponsors.
The event began with a shotgun start at 9:00 AM, followed by lunch. Overall, the tournament included over 100 participants and 18 sponsors and generated an impactful amount to benefit the Matthew T. McDermott Scholarship Fund.
"We're so grateful to see the tournament building momentum over the last 20 years with so many people participating in the event this year. It seems to be a common theme at Eckerd College," said Sue McDermott '89.
The tournament celebrates the life and passion for golf of Matt McDermott, a 1989 Eckerd College alumnus who tragically passed away on September 11, 2001, in the World Trade Center. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Matthew T. McDermott Scholarship Fund, which provides financial support for outstanding Eckerd College student golfers.
"Yesterday was an unbelievable day and the biggest Matthew T. McDermott Golf Tournament in the history of the event," said Director of Athletics, Tom Ryan '87. "It's so exciting to see the support and sponsorship continue to grow each year."
1999 men's golf alumnus Kevin Collins and his foursome (pictured below) won the overall event.
