Box Score 2 ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons men's and women's tennis teams hosted the Ferris State Bulldogs on Friday in a non-conference matchup. Both contests were suspended due to weather and will not be finished.
Before the match was called, the women saw three total victories against the No. 47 ranked Bulldogs. Ferris State took two of the three doubles matches for the early point, but the Tritons saw a win at No. 3 from
Valentina Sanchez Bronzetti and
Maialen Idiakez by a score of 6-4.
In singles, Sanchez Bronzetti won her match at No. 3 by a score of 6-4, 6-4, while Idiakez also won her second match of the day at No. 4 with a 6-4, 6-1 decision.
On the men's side, the Tritons also picked up a victory against the No. 35 ranked Bulldogs in doubles as
Batu Ataseven and
Amirali Ghavam earned a 6-3 triumph at the No. 1 spot. Ferris State claimed the other two matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
Only three matches were completed in singles play.
Mario Kirkov grabbed a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3 for the Tritons.
Both teams will be back in action Tuesday to face Georgia College.
