Athletics occupies a unique space where unity, respect, teamwork, and inclusion come together to achieve something greater. We must act in accordance with the values that define our community. We must be resolute in our stance against inequality and injustice that has affected those in our Tritons family and around the world.
Racism challenges us to recognize injustice and have the courage to demand change. First, we must change the way we think, the way we speak on issues of social justice, and the compassionate actions we take. Action is needed now more than ever. We must act. Our department, alongside our Diversity and Inclusion office, will implement programming and opportunity for our student-athletes and coaches that will engage them in this conversation, educate them on racism and oppression in our country and support them.
Our entire community of student-athletes, coaches, staff, alumni, and fans must unite and stand with each other in this moment and in the years to come.
