ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd beach volleyball team swept Tusculum (Tenn.) both by scores of 4-1 Wednesday afternoon at the Eckerd beach courts.
Eckerd (5-1) picked up two wins quickly in the opener as the No. 4 and No.5 draws breezed past the Pioneers. In the No. 4 draw,
Ivey Andrews and Peyton Meader collected a 21-15, 21-16 win while
Fernanda Reis and
Nicki Bechtold won, 21-15 and 21-13, in the No. 5 slot.
Agata Sklepik and
Sam Crankshaw in the No. 2 slot cruised to a 21-9, 21-16 win to secure the victory for the Tritons.
Paula Hoffmann and
Anna Jungjohann gave EC another win in the No. 1 slot. The duo took the first set 21-17 before dropping the second 25-23, but they bounced back to take the deciding third set 15-9.
Andrews/Meader (21-14, 21-19) and Bechtold/Reis (21-18, 21-15) both won handily again in the second match against Tusculum (2-6).
Eckerd also breezed in the No. 1 and 2 slots as Jungjohann/Hoffmann (21-15, 21-14) and Sklepik/Crankshaw (21-12, 21-17) both won in straight sets.
The Tritons return to action next Tuesday as they host a tri-match with the State College of Florida and St. Petersburg College at the North Shore Courts starting at 1:00 PM.
