ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Triton women's tennis team was narrowly edged by Saint Thomas Aquinas (N.Y.) on Tuesday at the Bullard Courts, 5-4.
The Spartans took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, getting wins at the No. 2 an No. 3 positions. Â It took a tiebreaker to decide the winner at No. 3 doubles as Katrina Lopez and Carolyn Kopf outlasted
Laurence Bourgault and
Isabella Wong, 9-8 (7-2).
Taylor Selby and
Joyce Fields were dominant in their win at No. 1 doubles sweeping Nyenyeri Kanefu and Cassandra Rohr, 8-0.
The Spartans (10-10) earned two keys wins early in singles play in the No. 4 and No. 6 positions. Bourgault took a victory at No. 5 singles taking the super tiebreaker from Sara O'Brien, 10-7, after the two split the first two sets (6-4, 1-6).
Fields breezed past Kanefu at No. 2 singles, 6-0 and 6-2, while Selby was also a winner at No. 1 singles (7-5, 7-5) over Lovisa Engstrand.
The Tritons (2-7) enjoy a few days off before hosting Nova Southeastern on Sunday at 10:00 AM.
