MIDWEEK MATCHUP
- Eckerd is coming off a tough loss Wednesday night to NAIA No. 13 Webber International (Fla.) University. The Tritons fell by a score of 8-7 on a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth. Eckerd carried a lead throughout the game with Webber rallying to tie the game twice. In the first inning, Eckerd plated two runs scoring off an errant throw and a wild pitch.
Justin Glover added another run in the second smacking his third home run of the season.
Sam Cochrane broke a 3-3 tie in the third lacing a shot to center for a 4-3 lead. Eckerd regained the lead in the eighth after the Warriors tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth.
Tom Buonopane drove in
Nick Conti for the first run followed by a
Chase Achuff two RBI single. The Tritons took the lead into the ninth where Webber delivered the winning run.
PAVING THE WAY
- Four Tritons –
Nick Conti (.384),
Mitch Calandra (.354), Cochrane (.348), and Buonopane (.301) - spearhead the offense.
- Conti has smacked nine doubles on his way to driving in 17 runs and scoring 33 runs. With a single in his first at-bat Wednesday, Conti extended his reached base streak to 32 giving him a .469 on-base percentage, 10th in the conference.
- Calandra has ripped eight doubles and brought in 16 runs. Calandra extended his hit-streak to nine games with a single in his last at-bat Wednesday.
- Cochrane has driven in 16 runs while smashing 10 doubles, two triples, and two home runs. Cochrane is in the top ten in the conference in triples (2), at-bats (135), and stolen bases (9).
- Buonopane has brought in a team-high 19 runs while lacing three doubles, one triple, and two home runs. Buonopane has drawn a team-high 18 walks on his way to a .409 on-base percentage.
ON THE HILL
- The arms of
Dillon McCollough,
Alex Moore, and
Kevin Kane pave the way for the weekend rotation.
- McCollough (3-3) is in the top of the conference in ERA (2.62), opposing batting average (.194), strikeouts (55), and fewest hits allowed (29).
- Kane (3-3) maintains a 5.12 ERA over 31.2 innings while striking out 20. Moore (0-4) has fanned 43 over 40 innings of work.
ABOUT EMBRY-RIDDLE
- The SSC provisional member has only grabbed two wins over conference opponents. One win, however, was over Tampa two weeks ago.
- A trio of Eagles lead the way offensively. Johnathan Camp (.324), Kyle Guttveg (.321), and Christopher Medina (.315) all hit over .300. Camp and Medina provide power as Camp has smashed five home runs and Medina has laced 11 doubles. Guttveg is perfect 16-for-16 in stolen bases.
- Austin Lee leads the Eagles on the rubber with 52 punch-outs over 62 innings. Lee maintains a 5.02 ERA.
LAST TIME THEY MET
- Embry-Riddle took last year's series from the Tritons two games to one. In the finale, McCollough picked up the win while Buonopane smacked a home run.
