Tritons Split Doubleheader with Palm Beach Atlantic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Dillon McCollough tossed his second straight complete game to help the Eckerd baseball team take the final game of a three-game series from Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday, 6-2.

The Sailfish won the opening game of Friday's doubleheader, 7-2, to claim the series after last night's victory.

McCollough (5-3) scattered eight hits in the win and had a shutout intact through 7-2/3 innings before PBA finally pushed a run across on a squeeze bunt with two outs in the eighth.

By then, the Tritons (15-23) had already built a 5-0 lead.

EC plated a run in the top of the first when Andrew Don drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs, then scored another two-out run in the second on an RBI double by Chase Achuff.

Neither team scored again until the seventh when EC padded its advantage.  Nick Conti led off the inning with a double and switched places with Sam Cochrane to make it 3-0.  Cochrane later scored on an error and Daniel Autiello capped the inning with an RBI double.

Autiello delivered again in the ninth with a single that brought in Don after his leadoff triple.

The Sailfish scored a run in the bottom of the inning, but McCollough stranded two in going the distance for the third time this season.

In the opener, Eckerd got off to a good start with two runs in the first on a Cochrane single but Tyler Hawks and Kyle Polaski shut the Tritons down for the rest of the game.

After PBA scored a run in the bottom of the first, the Sailfish (25-18) took the lead with two runs in the fourth.

Alex Moore (0-6) took the loss, allowing four runs in 5-2/3 innings.

Tom Buonopane had three hits from the leadoff spot while Conti and Cochrane had two each in the opener.  Achuff had a 4-for-5 performance in the second game; Cochrane added three more hits and Autiello and Mitch Calandra had two each.

The Tritons return to action next Friday, visiting Lynn University for a three-game series.
