Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Palm Beach Atlantic got off to a quick start and kept the Eckerd bats quiet throughout the night as the Sailfish opened a three-game series with a 9-1 win over the Tritons on Thursday.
PBA (24-17) scored four times in the bottom of the first inning on five straight hits including three doubles.
Eckerd posted its only run of the game in the top of the second after a pair of singles by
Tom Buonopane and
Chase Achuff put runners on for
Justin Glover, who reached on a fielder's choice followed by an error which allowed Buonopane to score.
However, that would be the only offense the Tritons (14-22) could muster as four Sailfish pitchers combined to throw a four-hitter.
Palm Beach Atlantic added a run in the third after a triple and an RBI groundout, then scored four more runs in the fifth capped by a three-run home run.
The Eckerd bullpen held PBA at bay following the home run, but the Tritons were unable to cut into the deficit.
Joey Favetta (1-2) took the loss, allowing eight runs over four-plus innings of work. Â
Justin Carrillo,
Nick Alonzo and
Lucas Spetsas combined to allow only three hits and one run in the final four innings.
Mitch Calandra extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a single in the sixth. Â
Nick Conti, however, saw his streak of reaching base safely end at 35 games after being retired in all four of his plate appearances.
The series resumes tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
