WEEKEND WRAP-UP
- The Tritons hosted Embry-Riddle over the weekend for three games, dropping the series two games to one. Eckerd won the finale by a score of 4-1.
Dillon McCollough threw a complete game in the win while striking out eight. The Tritons scored twice in the sixth and seventh innings to back McCollough. After an early 1-0 lead,
Justin Glover tied the game bringing in
Nick Conti on a ground out.
Chase Achuff followed with a single to right driving in
Tom Buonopane.
Mitch Calandra provided two insurance runs in the seventh as he ripped a ball to left with the bases loaded.
- In Saturday's opener,
Alex Moore went the distance striking out 13, but Moore took a tough loss as the Tritons' ninth inning rally fell short. Achuff drove in the first run bringing in Buonopane on a triple to left and then scored taking advantage of an Eagle error. Embry-Riddle was able to hold Eckerd off from there to take the game by a score of 3-2.
- In Friday night's game, errors plagued the Tritons giving up five unearned runs in the 11-6 loss.
A B C's OF ECKERD OFFENSE
- Conti (.381), Calandra (.357),
Sam Cochrane (.333), Buonopane (.310), and Achuff (.252) lead the Tritons at the plate. Conti has scored a team-high 35 runs. He also leads the team with a .478 on-base percentage – ninth in the conference. With a walk in Saturday's finale, he has reached base in every game this season (35).
- Calandra has ripped nine doubles this season while driving in a team-high 22 runs. Calandra enters the series with a 12-game hitting streak, including five multi-hit games during the streak.
- Cochrane has smacked 10 doubles, two triples, and two home runs while driving in 16. He ranks among the top in the conference in at-bats (151), triples (2), and stolen bases (9).
- Buonopane has plated 19 runs while lacing three doubles, one triple, and two home runs. Buonopane has reached base safely in his last six games.
- Achuff is second on the team in RBIs driving in 21 runs. He enters the series on a six game reached base streak. He is tied for first in the conference in sacrifice flies with five.
BIG ARMS
- McCollough (4-3) and Moore (0-5) pave the way for Eckerd on the mound. They both threw complete games on Saturday while combining for 21 strikeouts.
- McCollough threw a complete game earlier this season against Cedarville University while striking out 11. McCollough is second in the conference in ERA (2.18), opposing batting average (.182), and fourth in strikeouts (64).
- Moore is eighth in the conference in punchouts (56) over 49 innings of work.
ABOUT THE SAILFISH
- PBA is coming off a split in a four-game series with No.17 Nova Southeastern. PBA dropped the weekend series two games to one with the Sailfish winning the finale 9-4. The Sailfish then won by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday.
- Seven Sailfish lead the offense hitting over .300. PBA has plenty of power as the team has 87 doubles and 27 home runs. Sean Visconti leads the way with 20 doubles while Kyle Simon and Andrew Calderone each have eight home runs.
- Sean Horner (4.44) and David Paul (5.18) lead the way on the mound. Horner has fanned 36 while Paul has 43 strikeouts.
