ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Triton men's tennis team earned its first win of the spring in dominating fashion, posting a 9-0 sweep of Capital (Ohio) University at the Bullard Courts on Thursday.
Eckerd (1-3) didn't drop a set in either singles or doubles play in the victory.
The day started strong for the Tritons in doubles as
Will Stone and
Matt Spasic improved to 3-1 this season with an 8-0 win over Santino DiMichaelangelo in the No. 2 position. Â
Eddie Lewis and
Bruno Alves also breezed at No. 3 doubles with an 8-0 win over Ben Heiland and Taylor Ward.
The No. 1 tandem of
Victor Appelqvist and
Alasdair Knox completed the sweep of doubles play, picking up an 8-4 victory over Dale Booher and C.J. Martin.
The trend continued into singles where Alves easily dispatched of Ward, 6-0 and 6-0, at the No. 6 spot. Â Stone, Spasic and Knox also picked up impressive wins in dropping only one game each in their respective matches.
Lewis scored a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over Martin and Appelqvist finished the day with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Booher in the No. 1 position.
"We had a solid win today," said EC head coach
Ben Maxwell. Â "The guys took care of business and played really well. Â We implemented the game plan throughout the day and I am pleased with our performance."
Eckerd returns to action on Sunday, hosting Walsh (Ohio) at 10:00 AM.
