BASEBALL GAMEDAY: Tritons Look to Carry Momentum Against Barry

ST.PETERSBURG, Fla.- The Eckerd baseball team looks to continue its hot streak as the Tritons host Barry University for a three-game conference series. The Tritons have won seven of their last nine games.

MIDWEEK SWEEP
- Eckerd faced the University of Bridgeport during the week and won both contests by scores of 6-2 and 13-4. Eckerd wasted no time getting on the board in Tuesday's win after leadoff hitter Sam Cochrane blasted the first pitch he saw over the right field fence. Cochrane drove in another two runs on a double to left in the seventh. Mitch Calandra then drove a ball up the middle to score Nick Conti to seal the win in the seventh. Robin Allen seized his first win of the season pitching 5.2 solid innings, scattering four hits while giving up one run.
- In Wednesday's win, Eckerd's bats erupted for 14 hits. The Tritons scored early again as they plated three runs in the second and four in the third inning. The Tritons then tacked on two runs in the seventh and eighth. Matthew Miller drove in four runs in the win. Miller singled to bring in the first run of the game before smacking a shot off the scoreboard for another two runs in the third. Chase Achuff went 4-5 with two RBIs, the first Triton to tally four hits in a game this season.

SETTING THE PACE
- Cochrane (.388), Conti (.386), Calandra (.318), and Tom Buonopane (.313) lead the Tritons at the plate, all hitting over .300.
- Cochrane has recorded a hit in all but one game of his college career. Cochrane started the season on a 17-game hit streak and currently rides a five-game hit streak. Cochrane ranks in the top 10 in the conference in several statistical categories including hits (38), doubles (9), at-bats (98), and triples (2).
- Conti has reached base safely in every game this season. Conti went 3-5 in Wednesday's win over Bridgeport while driving in two runs.
- Calandra has been a RBI machine lately driving in seven runs in the past four games.
- Buonopane has reached base safely in the last 17 games while swiping two bags during the week.

 BIG ARMS
- Dillon McCollough, Alex Moore, and Kevin Kane lead the weekend rotation for the Tritons while Jack Mahan has paved the way in relief.
- McCollough's 2.14 ERA ranks fifth in the conference while his opposing batting average (.158), strikeouts (50), and strikeouts looking (20) top the conference. Moore (4.66) and Kane (5.88) have fanned a combined 48 batters.
- Mahan (2.60) has thrown shutout innings in his last five appearances allowing just two hits. Mahan has limited hitters to a .190 batting average.

ABOUT BARRY
- Barry comes into the series 13-11 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Buccaneers are riding a five-game win streak as they swept SSC provisional member Embry-Riddle last weekend.
- Four Buccaneers lead the way hitting over .300. Julian Abreu leads the way hitting .402 with 10 doubles and one home run. Justin Lamazares and Ryan Baldwin lead the power for Barry hitting .398 and .374 respectively with four home runs apiece.
- Starting pitchers Luis Deville and Jonathan Hernandez lead the way on the mound pitching 29.1 and 27.1 innings respectively. Five pitchers have 24 strikeouts or more, Alex Lavendero leads the way with 29 punchouts.
