Box Score 2 SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. - A pair of late-inning rallies spelled doom for the Eckerd baseball team on Saturday as the Tritons lost both ends of a doubleheader at Flagler (Fla.), 9-5 and 11-3.
The Saints (6-1) did the majority of their damage from the sixth inning on, scoring eight times in those frames in both games.
Eckerd started the day on a high note with five runs in the top of the first, including a grand slam by
Justin Glover. Â However, the trio of Dustin Dye, MacLain Larson and Dante Pagano shut down the Triton bats for the rest of the game.
Meanwhile,
Alex Moore (0-1) gave EC five strong innings on the mound before running into trouble in the sixth. Â The Saints led off the inning with a solo home run followed by a double. Â Moore retired the next two batters but gave up three straight singles to end his day.
Joey Favetta entered in relief and allowed a two-run triple that gave Flagler the lead. Â The Saints plated one more run before Favetta recorded the final out.
A two-run home run by Cole Ondrejka in the seventh inning tacked on FC's final runs of the game.
Moore allowed six runs on eight hits over 5-2/3 innings, striking out five. Â
Lucas Spetsas worked a scoreless 1-2/3 innings to finish the game.
The Saints again took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth in game two. Â After Eckerd tied the game at 3-3 in the top half of the inning on an RBI single by
Tom Buonopane, Flagler produced back-to-back run-scoring hits and took a 5-3 lead.
FC then added two more runs in the seventh and padded its lead with four runs in the eighth.
Eckerd got on the board in the top of the first via a Buonopane single that scored
Nick Conti. Â
Garrett Hiott connected on his first home run of the season in the third, a solo shot to put the Tritons ahead, 2-1.
Flagler tied the game with a run in the fourth and went ahead with another in the fifth off EC starter
Kevin Kane (0-1). Â Kane took the loss, allowing five runs in 5-2/3 innings while striking out six.
Conti and Glover each had two hits in the opener while Buonopane recorded two hits in game two.
Eckerd returns to the field on Tuesday, hosting Warner (Fla.) University at 6:00 PM.
