Box Score TAMPA, Fla. - As is usually the case, Eckerd softball pitcher
Nikole Van Gennep was very good in Friday night's series opener at the University of Tampa.
Unfortunately for the Tritons, UT's Alyssa Bache was a little bit better as the Spartans took the first game of the weekend series, 1-0.
The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning on a one-out RBI single by Jennie Sittloh after Bache led off the inning with a double.
That run was all Bache needed as she limited Eckerd (24-19-1, 8-11 SSC) to just one hit while striking out 14.Â
Rachael Luckett broke up Bache's no-hit bid with a single in the fourth inning, but she was quickly erased after being caught stealing.
Van Gennep (14-14), meanwhile, allowed only six hits and worked around three Eckerd errors to keep Tampa off the board until the sixth. She struck out two and walked none in six innings of work while working out of a bases-loaded jam in the second.
The series concludes on Saturday with a double-header scheduled to begin at noon.
