ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd women's tennis team competed in its third match in as many days on the Fred Bullard Courts as the West Chester University of Pennsylvania Golden Rams visited campus.
The Golden Rams (4-2) proved tough as they defeated the Tritons by a score of 7-2. EC (1-5) fell behind early as West Chester took all three points at doubles, making it difficult for the Tritons to recover.
The Tritons recorded victories at first and sixth singles while
Isabella Wong fell in a hard-fought three-set match at No. 4 singles, 1-6, 6-3, 12-10. At No. 1 singles,
Emily Fridrik played to impress and claimed a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
"Emily played a great match. She was composed and executed her game plan," said head coach
Ben Maxwell. "It's nice to see her implementing the things she has been working on all season."
Gabrielle Hartman joined Fridrik in the win column with an 8-1 decision.
"Gabby played really well today," Maxwell said. "Her focus and determination showed with her win."
The Tritons have a break in their schedule after playing three matches in as many days and do not return to action until Saturday. EC will travel to Melbourne to take on the Florida Tech Panthers in a Sunshine State Conference contest. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 PM.
