ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons women's tennis team erased a 2-0 deficit to defeat the visiting Tampa Spartans by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday.
The Spartans earned the doubles point after taking two of the three matches to begin the day.
Maialen Idiakez and
Valentina Sanchez Bronzetti squeaked out a 7-6 (8-6) victory at the No. 3 spot, but the damage was already done with Tampa securing the first two to finish.Â
In singles, the visitors collected a win at No. 3 in the first match to conclude, but
Olivia Lindestaf got the Tritons on the board with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 1. Tampa got one back with a win at No. 2Â to take a 3-1 lead.
Idiakez kept the Tritons alive with a 7-5, 6-4 decision at No. 4 before
Laura Ullrich outlasted her opponent at No. 6 in three sets, winning by a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Catherine Cole clinched the match win for Eckerd with a 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-3) triumph at No. 5.
The Tritons improve to 12-5 with the win and will close out the home schedule on Friday against Saint Leo for Teal Out.
