Box Score ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons women's tennis team fell in a close battle with the visiting Saint Leo Lions on Friday by a score of 4-3.
The visitors took the early advantage after winnings two of three doubles matches to begin the contest.
Maialen Idiakez and
Valentina Sanchez Bronzetti picked up a 7-5 victory at No. 3, but the Lions led 1-0 entering singles.
Saint Leo collected victories in the first two singles matches to conclude, but the Tritons got on the board with
Olivia Lindestaf's 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 decision at No. 1. Idiakez pulled Eckerd closer with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the No. 4 spot before the Lions clinched the match with a win at No. 6.
Catherine Cole rounded out the match with a three-set triumph at No. 5.
The Tritons will be back in action Monday at No. 8 Florida Southern.Â
