WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Eckerd men's tennis program was on a five-match winning streak heading into its contest at Palm Beach Atlantic on Thursday afternoon, but the ITA No. 35 Sailfish ended the streak with a 7-2 decision.
Eckerd (11-4) nearly took an early 2-1 lead after doubles play, but a narrow 9-8 (7-5) battle at the top position went in the Sailfish's favor providing PBA (9-4) the early advantage and momentum. The loss prevented
Yosua Husodo and
Victor Appelqvist from winning 10 consecutive matches at the position as their streak was snapped at nine.
Frazier Springfield and
Eddie Lewis remained perfect in their third match as a tandem at second doubles with an 8-4 victory.
Husodo continued his hot streak in singles play with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory at the No. 3 position. His eight consecutive wins in singles is the longest streak of his career.
Eckerd returns with no days off as the Tritons visit Boca Raton to challenge the ITA No. 9 Lynn Fighting Knights in Sunshine State Conference play. EC looks to get its first conference victory on Friday's match starting at 1:00 PM.
